‪Working in a variety of media, Ryan Thompson makes work that engages the complex and often strange relationships produced when human forces collide with natural phenomena. His current research includes a series of projects revolving around the stolen petrified wood specimens and 'conscience letters' of the Petrified Forest National Park.

Thompson's recent projects include "Dark Flight" at DIG, Chicago; “Glacial Erratic Monuments: Geneva” for the exhibition PUBLIC THINGS at Galerie Analix Forever, Geneva, Switzerland; and Burden of Proof: Forest & Sea at “Smoke & Mirrors,” Lightwell Gallery, University of Oklahoma. "Burden of Proof" and "Glacial Erratic Monuments" were recently included in the book Reframing Photography, by Rebekah Modrak and Bill Anthes, published by Routledge and online at reframingphotography.com.

Thompson received his BFA from Calvin College in 2003 and an MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2009. Before joining the Trinity faculty, he was Assistant Professor of Art and Communication at Houghton College.
