Jinsook Kim, MFA, PhD

Associate Professor of Art and Design

Dr. Kim earned her Ph.D. from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois and her M.F.A. from Graduate School of Seoul Women’s University, Seoul, South Korea.

Dr. Kim has more than 20 years communication design experience, engaging with both traditional and new media. She is interested in translating and extending two-dimensional visual literacy into ‘time’ for screen-based media. She developed an applied theory, Motion Gestalt for her doctorate. Her current research interests include gestalt attention and interaction, qualitative design research methods, and communication design for social or community issues.

Prior to joining Trinity, Kim worked for Jacksonville State University in Alabama teaching graduate courses in design and at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, teaching communication design courses with an emphasis on motion graphics. She holds a Ph.D. in Design from IIT Institute of Design in Chicago.
